I feel your frustration with PL-259's. They're basically used in applications about 170 MHz and below due to their poor impedance matching at higher frequencies. I used to sell these things to mainly CBers, Hams and Marine VHF applications, my advice to those looking is if you want to attempt this pick up the better PL259's with the Teflon insulators as the others tend to melt with the high heat needed to solder the braid. Better bet if your going to be installing a few adapt these dopey connectors to BNC's and pick up the correct crimpers for the BNC's as long as your not exceeding about 100 W.

In California, most properties with lawns are under HOA's or sprawling condominium/apartment complexes that are professional managed. They have contractors that mow lawns daily for a living. They mow year round since California has a miild winter. Battery operated tools need regular use to get your money's worth out of them. A regular homeowner in middle America that uses their tools occasionally will be very disappointed at the lifespan and performance of the tool. Any store in anywhere else America is just stealing your money by selling them to you.

In some places, you are required to run a layer of tape ( think " Police line, do not cross" ) about 6 inches below the surface and above the buried lines. This is in case anyone digs there; they are warned by the tape that something is directly below.
